A Network State is a highly aligned online community with the capacity for collective action that funds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.

The foundational blueprint for network states was authored by Balaji Srinivasan at thenetworkstate.com. His work is a prerequisite for understanding NTNS.

Think of a network state like a "Subscription" country. Just like choosing which college to go to, you choose which state represents your values.

"Right to Exit" over the "Right to Voice." Instead of being chained to obsolete democratic models where you are slave to the whims of a majority, you simply relocate to one of the many new jurisdictions.

The 7 steps to building a network state as described by Balaji in https://thenetworkstate.com/the-network-state-in-one-thousand-words

  1. Found a startup society.
  2. Organize it into a group capable of collective action.
  3. Build trust offline and a cryptoeconomy online.
  4. Crowdfund physical nodes.
  5. Digitally connect physical communities.
  6. Conduct an on-chain census.
  7. Gain diplomatic recognition.

However, an evolution from the core ideas, funding physical nodes and setting up economic bedrock is step 1 for NTNS.

LKY 2.0 - Internet Archipelago: NTNS philosophy is inspired by the pragmatic, and high-performance model of Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore, (mixed with a little bit of modern day Dubai).

However, where LKY built a city-state on a single island, the NTNS plan is to build an archipelago of many small nodes designed for the internet age.
